When our founding fathers formed the United States of America, I do not think they would ever have imagined how their idea for a free and fair society would be so convoluted over time that what they had once envisioned was no more.
We have gone from a democracy to a socialist country without even realizing it. Where the power lies with the people when this country was first founded, and now that we have given the government so much control of this country and our lives I think we have lost sight of what has been taken from us, as well as what we have given away. The government was to facilitate the will of the people, but now it seems the people are facilitating the will of the government.
More and more people want government control, government aid, etc. Mostly I feel it is because we are becoming lazier as a people. People who are laid off, quit or are fired from a job want government assistance, they want unemployment checks in the mail in lieu of going out and doing what it takes to get another job. Moreover, yes many, many of us want nothing more than to be working; but how many of us are truly willing to do anything it takes to find a job, and start earning a paycheck again?
How many have lost their jobs either through no fault of their own, or from their fault are willing to do anything to get a job, even if that means getting a job at McDonald’s; or getting a job on a farm picking Tobacco, or strawberries, or even delivering newspapers as a means of getting by until something better comes along. To me it seems as long as people are collecting unemployment from the government they do not need to look as hard, and can wait for the job they want to come to them, and are able to be picky about which jobs they apply for.
The government has us in this position by not cracking down on unemployment insurance oversight to make sure people are actually out looking for jobs. You have to fill out a sheet, and say whom you applied to, but they are rarely verified if even at all. Where is the true incentive to go out and look for work if they just have to fill out a paper, and turn it in, or call it in each week? We as a society are slowing being made to rely more and more on the government to survive, and soon we will not be able to survive without it.
The latest from the United States Government is allowing Homeland Security to monitor Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) for certain keywords that would alert them to possible threats of attack, natural disaster, epidemic, etc. This might sound ok to some, but what most do not realize is this will affect most everyone, as many of the words in the list are common everyday words people do not think twice about using. For example if you mention on Facebook that you love the new handbag you just got at Target, or that your giving up pork then you have just been added to their watch list. Even if on Twitter you mention that you got a burn on your finger while cooking, you have just added yourself to the list. Tecca.com has a good article on the subject as well.
